Celebrating Christmas by Halloween

Good evening friends.

We hope everyone had a wonderful day today.  You gotta love Thursdays. The anticipation of the weekend is so severe that people treat Thursday nights like they are Friday Nights.

Just is in case anyone is confused as to why we start talking about Christmas as soon as Halloween ends, its the same concept.  The lead up is better than the actual event. With that said, why not celebrate New Years Evening and Memorial Day on the same night ?

Its funny, society always has us 3 to 4 months in advance of where we are.  20 years ago, i jumped in the camp of not celebration anything other than each day that i wake up.  Kind of why I count the days since I’m in Puerto Rico.  I just want to be where I am.  Every time I try to be where i am not, the _hit hits the fan.

OK, so not to belabor the point, let’s close with Two Positive Notions.

1. Happy Thanksgiving

2. Happy Labor Day, yup Labor Day.

Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 307, Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Goodnight from Sammy & Family on November 11th, 2015

Good evening on Veteran's Day

Good evening friends.

We hope everyone had a nice Veteran’s Day.  It’s important to remind ourselves that it was their service and sacrifice which paved the way for our Freedom.

God bless all of them; past, present and future soldiers. It a great annual reminder of their service and sacrifice.  We’ve all heard stories over the years that Veterans don’t get the benefits they deserve.  Like the country turned their backs on them once they were regular civilians.  I sincerely hope that situation has improved for them.  You should Not have to fight for your country and risk your life, and then have to fight for your benefits when you return.

These hero’s should be held in the highest regard and treated like Gold.  So with that, a big salute to all those who have served, are serving, and have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed. Amen. Scott Smith for Sammy & Family.

In Observance of Veterans Day

Today we celebrate Veterans Day

Good morning friends.

In Observance of Veterans Day, Sammy came by to pay pay his respects.  Today we honor the service of all U.S. military veterans.  Originally this day was called “Remembrance Day” to mark the end of World War 1, on November 11th, 1918. This holiday was renamed to “Veterans Day” in 1954.

Have a great day friends.

Goodnight from Sammy & Family on November 10th, 2015

Closing out on Day 305 in Puerto Rico

Good evening friends.

Its great to be here with everyone.  We hope everyone had a nice Tuesday. If you did not, sometimes a good night sleep resets us to a better place.  I am actually in that camp today.  And tonight, I will be taking my own advice.  Its kind of the reverse slogan of: “Do as I say, not as I do”  — Tonight, I am going “Do as I say, and Do as i Do”

OK, lets close out with two positive notions.

1. Lets take a quote from; Sir Anthony Hopkins; “Its none of my business what people think of me, I am what I am, I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything and it makes life so much easier”

2. From Morgan Freeman; “The best way to guarantee a loss is to quit. Winning and losing is in your control. Even when it seems as if you have lost, as long as you don’t stop, you’re a winner”.

See you in the morning friends.  Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 305, Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Pops Goes the Tuesday

Pops Goes the Tuesday

Good morning friends.

Happy Poppy Tuesday.  A day filled with Hope and possibilities. If things worked out for the Pops, they can work out for anyone.

As you can see here Pops is in the middle of a music class.  Vanessa used to play piano so she was teaching him the basics.

OK, lets kick this Poppy Tuesday off with Two Positive Notions.

1. When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on longer.   — Eleanor Roosevelt —

2.  ♫♫♫ Don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling  ♫♫♫   — Journey — 1980’s

See you tonight friends.  Day 304 here in Puerto Rico.  Still can’t speak any Spanish, lol.

Kindness, compassion, empathy, creativity, imagination, and uniqueness by Jessica Lee Smith

Kindness, compassion, empathy, creativity, imagination, and uniqueness

Goodnight dear friends and family, This is Jessica writing to you tonight.

We hope you had a great Monday. I know how tough it is to get back into the swing of things, after the weekend seems to fly by. Monday is always the hardest day of the week for that reason.

I wanted to speak tonight about children. Children have such great potential for so many many things.  As everyone knows, each child is born with a different temperament. Each child is unique in their very own way.

Since my oldest daughter was a baby and now with my younger children, so many times Im surrounded by parents who I know love their children very much, but because of the social pressures around them,  when they speak of their kids, they are speaking mostly of the child’s achievements in sports, academics , puzzle skills, awards etc. Those are all great things, but still I feel there needs to be more of a focus on being proud of what kind of people they are, how much they live with and act from their heart. It’s time to praise our children for how kind they are,  and how much empathy they have for other people and animals. It’s so important to teach those qualities and instill them at the youngest possible age.

It is the children who hold these “jewels”, that move me the most, and that stand out amongst all others. These are the children who can truly make a difference and change the world.

Another thing is that I don’t believe in judging all children’s intellect and creativity by using the same model. If you use the same formula to determine that, you are cheating so many children, and you are cheating yourself. I am a firm believer that each child learns in a different way, and that they need to be approached for learning in a way that clicks for them.

Many times, parents are told that something is wrong with their child, simply because their child is more artistic, or more creative, or has more energy than most children. This is all because their child does not fit into a standardized box. When in fact these are all just different versions of “normal”. There is nothing wrong at all with children who learn differently, and that is a fact.

All in all, we need to overhaul our whole way of seeing, teaching and nurturing our children’s minds and souls.  We need not be concerned of labels and the small minded judgments of people who just Cannot and will not understand anything beyond what they’ve learned incorrectly themselves. We know our own children more than anyone else possibly can, and that will never change.

Kindness, compassion, empathy, creativity, imagination, and uniqueness. These are the things to nurture and be proud of in our children.

Goodnight everyone.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed. Amen. Jessica Lee Smith for Sammy & Family.

Jeffrey and Scott share a Nice Moment

Jeffrey and Scott

Good evening friends.

Jeffrey and I came by to say goodnight to everyone.  We hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s great to be alive on November 8th, 2015.

We stopped at pet smart today and saw another baby piggy. They don’t sell them there but a customer was carrying one around.  The piggy was 2 weeks old.  I promise you all my friends, they’re just as sweet as puppies.  And if given the same opportunities as dog and cats, pigs can be just as joyful.

So two things are on my “Way before the Bucket List”

1. The Ice Sheets in Canada to meet Harp Seals in person.

2. I’ve said this before, Vanessa and I will have a pet pig at some point. Non negotiable.

I want to remind everyone that soy dogs and soy meat are amazing.  I can’t taste the difference, I really cant.  And for that comparable taste and healthier option, so much needless suffering would disappear.  Just think about.  Its a small tweak with monumental benefits.

OK, lets close the night with two animal quotes from two celebrities;

1. “Sport” hunting is a sickness, a perversion and a danger and should be recognized as such. People who get their “amusement” from hunting and killing defenseless animals can only be suffering from a mental disorder. We know that we should protect the most vulnerable and helpless in society, not destroy them – much less derive pleasure from doing so. ”  — Sir Roger Moore —  Yes the Jame Bond guy from the 1980’s.

2. ‘You can judge a man’s true character by the way he treats his fellow animals.’  — Paul McCartney —

Happy Saturday Night with Kelly & Family

Kelly's New Haircut.

Good evening friends.

Kelly wanted to swing by and how everyone her new haircut.  Isn’t she just lovely ?  Getting a haircut does Not change who we are, but it sure feels refreshing.  Every time i get my long hair cut, I feel like a million bucks, lol.

We hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.  Saturday nights are awesome, they are so open and free. Better yet, immediately following Saturday night is Sunday Funday.  Win Win.

Goodnight everybody. Signing off from Puerto Rico, Kelly & Family.

Sammy Rajendra; Male Model & Actor

Good morning friends.

We have a very special feature today.  Say hello to 21 year old, Sammy Rajendra; Male Model & Actor.  I actually met this young gentleman on Facebook.  Sammy is Sri Lankan and lives in Staten Island, NY.  As a native New Yorker myself, I can tell you that you don’t hear that everyday.

Currently Sammy is am doing fashion catalog modeling for Patricia Field, the Emmy Award winning costume designer. Patricia Field who is known for her work on Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme, Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, Younger, and The Devil Wears Prada. Previously, Sam did an acting school student role for a MasterCard commercial with Hugh Jackman. I have also been cast as a character (Boyfriend of Sutton Foster’s daughter) in a new TV series called “Younger” and recently received a call back as a break dancer for the Christian Ditter’s movie, “How to Be Single”.  I was with Ikon Model Management for 2 years. In 2013, I got selected number 17 thposition in Ford Model’s high fashion modeling audition.

Sammy loves animals. He does a lot of volunteer work for Bideawee on East 38th St. NYC.  Bideawee is very involved with rescues, fostering and adoption.  Great organization.

Sammy originally reached out to me to ask if I knew of any talent agencies or actual agents to represent him. Sammy has done a lot modelling work but is more of an actor. Unfortunately coming from Wall Street and Social Media, I know very little about the modeling / acting world.

Nonetheless I was very impressed with this young man.  You see, whether somebody wants to do one thing as a profession, or another, we can all relate to when we were 21 years old and just starting out in the world.

So I said to Sammy, “How about we do a featured story on you for our friends around the world?”  — He was ecstatic.  I really took a liking to Sammy.  We have become friends since I started learning about his story.  He’s very soft spoken and polite.  I am very confident that with his focus and ambition, he will catch a break.  The Smith family are big fans of of this young man.  Click here to find him on Facebook; Sammy Rajendra.  Story continues below;

Sammy is very educated and comes from an academic type family. But his passions lie elsewhere. He loves modeling and is aspiring to become an actor.  Being an actor is his real dream. Its interesting when we talk I remember I used to say the same kind of things he says.  He is very focused on his future and feels things are Not moving quick enough for him.

I asked Sammy if he would like to convey a positive message to our friends from around the world.  It’s great message, here it is; “Your dreams and your actions define you.  Don’t let others define you with what they tell you to do and not to do. Stay focused on your goals. What ever happens, good or bad, Never Give Up”.

story on Sammy, the actor and model

Sammy loves animals. He does a lot of volunteer work for Bideawee on East 38th St. NYC.  Bideawee is very involved with rescues, fostering and adoption.  Great organization.

The Smith family will close with this. We have known Sammy for about a month. It took a lot of guts at 21 years old to just reach out to someone for some guidance and assistance.  I completely respect that. I remember when I was 21, I wished people with a lot of experience gave me the time of day.  Usually they did Not. When you’re that young, you don’t know that you don’t know, until somebody mentions it.  What we can offer this young man is this advice. Success is about staying focused, accepting rejection and marching forward anyway, ambition, and yes, luck helps too.  Having said that, the people that stay focused and ambitious, usually find “Luck” more often than those that take their eyes off the ball.

Sammy you are a big time winner.  You just don’t know it yet.  Stay positive, stay the course, and seek happiness along the way.  I got a feeling, the whole world is about to know you real soon.
