Teddy to the Rescue

Teddy to the Rescue

Good evening friends.

We have a special Post tonight called; “Teddy to the Rescue” — Our friend Danielle Riley adopted Teddy from Animal Control on New Year’s Eve.  He had been a stray dog and was found in a Walmart Parking lot. This local Animal Control is a kill shelter but at a much lower rate than most.

Teddy is about 3 years old. He was very matted and still has some more work to be done with the groomer. Teddy was pretty shy when Danielle met him which usually is not appealing to adopters. But Danielle knew better. Since she has taken him home, Teddy has come out of his shell. What a miracle that is. He was rescued just 5 days ago.

Danielle describes him as loving and well behaved. He follows her everywhere. He loves to snuggle and sleep very close to Danielle. Teddy is very low key, but loves to give kisses, high fives, and believe it or not, he does Yoga.

Sammy & Family would like to thank Danielle for making the world a better place, one rescue at a time. Its an incredible experience being part of miracle. When we give an innocent life a second chance, life is so enriching. Millions of animals just waiting for a shot at a happy life. And for that, they’ll give anyone and everyone a higher sense a purpose.

We titled this post, “Teddy to the Rescue” because in under a week, Teddy has brought such joy to Danielle’s life.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Happy National Dog Day

Nicholas from NYC leads us out for National Dog Day tonight

Good evening friends  We have a very special visitor leading us out tonight for “National Dog Day”  — This is our great friend Nicholas from NYC.  His human dad’s name is Jim, also a great friend to Sammy & Family.

Nicholas is one of the sweetest dogs in all of NY.  He is exceptionally smart and happy. Nicholas has been making people smile from all over the world the last couple of years.  Its no wonder why either, Jim loves his boy more than anything.

Nicholas is also a beacon for animal kindness.  Jim and his boy have been very active participants in animal welfare.  Its an honor to have they leading us out tonight.

We hope that all dogs around the world had a happy National Dog Day today. Lord knows they all deserve it.  Sadly we know its not the case for too many of them.  Lets keep their well being in our thoughts and prayers.

With that friends we are going to call  it a night.  We want to thank Jim and Nicholas for joining a tonight.  Its always nice to be surrounded by animal loving friends.

Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 227, Scott Smith for Sammy & Family.

This One’s for you Cecil

Rest in Peace Cecil

Good evening friends.

Sammy & Family pays our respects to the beloved lion Cecil, who was heinously killed about two days ago in Zimbabwe. The  heartless murderer was Dr. Walter Palmer is who a dentist from Minnesota. Dr. Palmer paid $55,000, yes, 55k to track down Cecil and kill him with a bow and arrow.  Cecil was a protected lion in Hwange National Park which apparently Dr. Walter Palmer lured her out of with dead meats where Cecil then became exposed.

Now before we get into this whole story of Cecil and trophy hunting, or any hunting for that matter, I wanted to just cover a few things.  I never got the memo that said people can play God or Mother Nature with respect to what animals live and which animals die, and by what numbers.  Another thing I have said many times is, the only thing is means that people are smarter then animals, is that people are smarter then animals.  It doesn’t mean anything else.  The same is to say if someone is smarter than me, does that give the right to punch me or something ?

Let me break down what “Hunting for Sport” means and doesn’t mean.  You see the term in itself is inaccurate because the word; “Sport’ is in it.  Now last I checked in sports you need two consenting parties to agree to go up against one another.  So lets eradicate the word “Sport” because I am 100 percent certain that animals do not want to participate in this sport.  So that leaves us with downright murder.  To me all hunting is murder.  But for the purposes of this post lets isolate Trophy hunting.  Wait, you know, lets add “Canned Hunting” as well into this post.  Canned hunting is when facilitates keep exotic and majestic animals in a confined area to make sure the hunters get their kill.  Possibly the most abusive form of murder in all of hunting.

Back to Dr. Walter Palmer, the dentist from Minnesota.  To him Cecil was just another kill.  He was an avid hunter and murdered approximately 50 majestic animals over the years.  It appears this murder of Cecil might have been illegal. Cecil was in a protected park and it believe that Dr. Palmer lured her out of the protection zone she can become an eligible kill.  What a classy guy, huh ?  A real gentleman.   He has stated it was a legal kill but it looks like it might Not have been.

Now that brings me to this word called “Semantics”  —  The  fact that a kill is legal or illegal does not change the reality of your action, you still committed a murder.  The defenseless animal has no idea about the laws, he just knows he is painfully dying now with no regard for his life. The same is to say it’s legal to walk around calling people _ssholes all day, but its now right, so we don’t.  But brutally killing and Maiming animals if its legal, no problem, bring it on like football, just another American Pastime.

Many of you know I did a video message called; “The Second Amendment from the Perspective of Animal” on You-tube. The link will be at bottom of this post.  And without getting into the political debate about guns, let me point out that animals are not mentioned in The Second Amendment but they sure are taking the brunt of it by far over anyone else. Most people hide behind The Second Amendment’s original meaning to engage in the thrill of the kill of animals. Video link is below to hear more.

If you listen to this message, you will Never be confused about why this country and other countries of course are so obsessed with guns. If you think its the whole “The Right to Bear Arms” to protect yourself, you are standing upside down.  That is Not even close to the real reason, not even close.  If you want to know further, please watch and listen to that video message below.

Now unfortunately, Dr. Walter Palmer is just one of thousands of people who enjoy killing beautiful creatures.  So does this media frenzy against this Dr. Palmer, the dastardly murderer prevent others from this deplorable pastime, ? I honestly am not sure.  Does it prevent these murderers from smiling in pictures with their cowardly kills ?  Hell yeah. But does that really help the animals, not in my opinion, people will just do it smarter and quieter.

We are in the year 2015, the evidence on animals being sentient beings is a fact and has been clear for a long time now. If people are still out there like the Dr. Palmers, and the Ted Nugents knowing this, they’re bad people. Its simple math. When I was on Wall Street for many years i had seen several people pay to go kill bears in Canada and or Alaska. I mean think of how bored you must be with your life if you need to do that.  Maybe they should make a change in their life, or get a new wife.  But for God sake man, for the love of God, stop killing these animals.  Mother Nature is tough enough on them.  The last thing animals need is for “Man” to keep stacking the deck even further against them.

I must even say I recently saw an interview with Tom Brokaw who was plugging his news book.  Yes, Tom Brokaw the legendary news anchorman. During the interview he spoke so cavalierly about him and his hunting buddies, and who had a good shot and who did not.  Like just a couple of guys laughing,  drinking beers and blowing animals heads off.  So despite Tom’s stature and all his elegance, Sammy & Family kind of sees him like others mentioned in this post.  I’m sure in the minority in that opinion, but we’re OK with that.

Remember friends, this land is their land, this land is our land, this land is made for them and us. Together we stand, divided we fall. The path to a better world flows through the humane treatment of all animals.  Animal equality is a tireless journey, there will be no retreat.  Below are 3 video and or audio links I did in regards to a lot of what’s mentioned in this post.

Rest in Peace Cecil.  No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family. Videos and Audios below.

Hydration

Hydration

Good morning friends.  Another gift today on July 24th, 2015.  Good, bad or indifferent its great to be alive today. And besides, its Friday, that’s a win right there in itself.

Sammy came by to wish everyone a great today and to remind everyone to stay hydrated.  Drinking water is so easy and yet I personally am always challenged to stay hydrated.  Its like showering, I know i have to do it, but i hate it, lol.

OK, lets kick this Friday off with two positive notions;

1. After a long week of work it can be nice to rest on a Friday night. There is no obligation with the universe to beat the hell out of yourself on a Friday night. Took me many many years to learn that one. In fact ou never have to beat the hell out of yourself. Took me a couple of more years to learn that one too.

2. Rescuing a dog, cat and / or pet is the most rewarding thing individuals or families can do on any given day and at any given time. Your life will instantly have a higher sense of purpose. You will be saving a life, and they will bring immediate happiness to your life.  Win – Win

Have a great Friday everyone.  Day 194 here in Puerto Rico.  See you tonight.  I have reluctantly go take a shower now :)

Sincerely, Scott Evan Smith

The Memo from God and Mother Nature

I never got the memo that we can play God or Mother Nature with respect to what animals live and which die, and by what numbers.

Good evening friends. We hope everyone had a happy Poppy Tuesday.  Life was good today on July 21st, 2015, it didn’t have to be that way.  Thank God that it is.

You know we have been doing different kind of posts at night and such, I want to promise all our animal loving friends, we never take our eye off the injustices inflicted on our animal friends around the world.  When the time is right I will hit those topics hard like I did with “Where Is the Geneva Convention for Animals?”  — Or “The Second Amendment from the Perspective of an Animal” and many, many more on Youtube and SoundCloud.

At the same token, in conveying our messages for the animals with no voice to defend themselves, Sammy & Family is not here to bring our animal loving friends from around the world down. So its a pick and choose your battles kind of things.  Having said that, animal equality, kindness, rescue and welfare remain the forefront of our voice.

Remember, the only thing it means that people are smarter than animals, is that people are smarter than animals, it means nothing more.  I would love to see the memo or email from God or Mother Nature that says we can decide which animals live and die and by which numbers.  I was never CC’ed on that.  Yes I know, I will check spam.

OK friends, lets close tonight with two messages for our animals friends all over the world.

1. The path to a better world flows through the humane treatment of all animals.

2. Rescuing an animal and bringing them into your home presents such a higher sense of purpose like some have never experienced.  You will be saving a life, and they will make your life.  We call that a Win, Win.

Terri Irwin The Ultimate Wildlife Warrior

Good morning friends.

Today’s featured story is about Terri Irwin, yes the wife of the late great Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter.  As we all know Steve Irwin was tragically killed by in Stingray in 2006.  But today I want to take it back to their beginning.  You see, most of us learned about Steve and Terri Irwin from the popularity and success of their worldwide show “The Crocodile Hunter.  But the wheels of fate were in motion many years before all that.

Terri Irwin, the ultimate wildlife warrior

Terri was born in July of 1964 and grew up in Eugene Oregon with her family who was in the trucking business. During her childhood years, Terri’s dad used to pick up injured animals on the highways and bring them home to help rehabilitate them.  Needless to say compassion for wildlife was instilled in Terri from the very beginning.

Terri Irwin The Ultimate Wildlife warrior

By the time she was 22 years old, Terri was running the family business, worked  part time at an emergency veterinary hospital and operated a wildlife rehabilitation organization called  “Cougar County”  The wildlife organizations was rescuing, rehabilitating  and releasing cougars, bears, bobcats and etc.  Terri Irwin was no ordinary 22 year old, she was wearing many hats, and wearing them well.

Terri Irwin and family

Now let’s take a look at the late Steve Irwin’s earlier years.

The Irwin's family story

Stephen Robert Irwin was born on the 22nd February, 1962, in upper Fern Tree Gully, Victoria, which is about 20 miles form the main business district in Melbourne Australia.  He moved with his parents and two sisters to Beerwah, Queensland, where his folks opened the Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park in June of 1970. Years later the Irwin’s changed the name to ” Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park” which now of course is  called The Australia Zoo. What a miraculous transition over the decades, but even with all the success the original common denominator has stood the test of time, their love and passion for wildlife.   Continue reading

The Magic of Koala

Koala on Death Row at that time

(From Pinterest page for super urgent animals at risk of being killed).

I first saw Koala pressed into the back of her small cage at a horrible high kill “shelter” in Harlem (NYACC). She had been brought in as a stray and given the temp name “Krystal”  — She was not getting any attention from potential adopters. She was too terrified. And she was just beginning to get kennel cough — Once an animal has this common cold-like sickness, they are put on the “To be destroyed list.”

Koal looking up smiling Noelle

We named her Koala for Koala’s are known to be quite timid.  Each time my mother saw Koala she commented, “She is very special”.  Tragically, a few months after adopting this “designer dog”, my Mom died suddenly. We brought Koala to the funeral, and not only was she a profound comfort to me and my family, but to everyone there who was grieving. Mom was right, she is indeed, an extremely special being.

Koala lying down

And that is the story of Koala, a dog that was to be killed to a dog healing and mending people’s hearts.  Another example of people rescuing pets and pets rescuing us right back.   Susan thank you for sharing this angel with us.  That was quite a journey this little girl has been on.  It makes us all happy to see how happy she is.

Goodnight friends. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Goodnight from Sammy & Family on April 14th, 2015

Dr. Harp Seal with comments for our friends who recently lost their dogs / pets

Good evening friends.

Its great to be here with everyone.  We hope y’all had a nice Tuesday.

The past couple of weeks we had say goodbye to several dogs here in the community as we all read about, it’s never an easy decision to make.  I just want to comfort the the families who recently had to let  their angels go, sometimes its the only loving move left to make.  Mercy is an act of kindness.  To all our friends who just went through this, Sammy & Family would have made the same decision as you all did.

I know that doesn’t make us miss them any less, but take comfort in knowing you all gave them a great life and showed them mercy on the way out.  There is nothing more honorable than that.

To Amanda, Phyllis, Marie, Cindy and Dave, all of you made the world a better place one animal at a time.  Nobody can change everything, but everyone can change something.  And the 5 of you changed the world for those 5 dogs.  What can be more noble then that ?

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Tonight Molly will Lead us Out

Prayers for Molly, get well soon

Good evening friends.

Tonight Molly will lead us out.  She is a member our of friend Bessie Stephens & family.

Molly is a 12 year old rat terrier whom Bessie has had since she was four weeks old.  She has survived heart worm disease.  Now she is very sick.  She is currently at the vets getting some kind of IV drip.  She has Been stumbling and sometimes falling.  The blood work showed some kind of liver count that was ten times higher than what it should be.

As of this morning Molly is still on a saline drip and they want to keep her overnight again.  Let’s keep Molly and Bessie in our prayers.  It’s hard to hear and see of things for any of us.  Bessie keep us posted please.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & family.

Tonight we have Romeo leading us out

Romeo leads us out tonight

Good evening friends.

Tonight we have Romeo leading us out.  He is a rescued Pit Bull and is member of our friends Lynn and her daughter Colby Lee.  He’s such a sweet boy.

Romeo had a pretty bad bought with heart worms past few weeks.  Colby originally took him to her vet and he used an old style treatment shot for heart worms and Romeo ended up very sick and could hardly walk.  Then they took him to Lynn’s vet where he received steroids, antibiotics and pro heart shots. Its a longer treatment but better for dogs then the original treatment.  And what do you know, within 24 hours Romeo was back to his old self .  That was quite a scare Romeo and his family went through.  We are very happy he is on the mend.  Such a sweet guy Romeo is.

Its interesting, we are of heart worm on the less serious side of health threats, but sometimes things happen and it gets off course.  Thank God Romeo is OK.   Lynn and Colby, thank you for keeping us up on this sweet boy.

Friends we hope you all had a nice weekend.  See you first thing in the morning.  Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 78, Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family
