Remy is a Miracle

Remy is a miracle

Good evening friends.

We have a very special story tonight. Please say hello to Remy, a beautiful sweet Schnauzer. The story of Remy is truly a story of miracles.

Remy belongs to our great friends, Deb Dun Magathan and her husband, Larry, both retired now living on the Jersey Shore. They were originally from Pennsylvania

Deb and her family are big time animal lovers. Over the years they have had many many dogs and several kinds of other animals too, including a pig named, Miss Higgins. They always had mini schnauzers up until their last angel passed about a year ago.

One night, Deb’s daughter, Samantha, excitedly texted her about a mini Schnauzer she saw on Facebook. When Deb saw the dog she immediately showed Larry and they immediately knew they had to have him in their lives.

Here’s where it got a little Dicey. Deb had no idea Remy was in Korea and the post had been 12 hours old already. There were many people who wanted Remy.

Deb quickly reached out over FB messenger to Patti Kim in California. Patti works with Jindo Love Rescue for Korean Dogs and Patti could tell how bad Deb and Larry wanted Remy, and picked them.

From there, on January 13th, 2016, Remy flew 19 hours from Korea to JFK International in New York What a little trooper this little fella is.

Remy had a rough life before he was rescued by Jindo Love Rescue. He was being physically abused by the owner’s boyfriend. She gave him up to a kill shelter. This kill shelter sells the dogs to the meat traders in Korea. This is not against the law there in Korea. Jindo Love goes to these places, rescues the dogs and finds homes for them. Deb mentioned that Remy is such a happy lovebug, you’d never know he’d been abused. Animals are so grateful like that.

Sammy & Family has written about the dog and cat meat trade throughout Asia many times over the years. Had this miracle not taken place, Remy was either going to be put down, or worse off, end up circulating in the dog meat trade destined for a horrific ending. An unspeakable ending.

Quick mention on Jindo Love Rescue.

In order to facilitate these rescues from Korea,  Patti Kim out of California and their point person in Shanghai China, Su, coordinate with their fosters in Korea and miraculously bring dogs to the states for a brand new life.

Jindo Love is not a nonprofit or registered organization. They are a group of individuals who pool their own money to rescue dogs from the dog meat trade and high kill shelters.

Sammy & Family wants to thank Deb and Larry for making the world a better place several animals at a time.

We also want to thank Patti Kim and Jindo Love for their tireless commitment towards getting innocent dogs out of Korea and into loving families and homes stateside.

In a world with so much pain, thank God we have incredible people and organizations like this on the front lines for animals everyday.
None of us can change everything, but everyone can change something. A random act of kindness may not change the world, but it changes the world for the recipients of that kindness.

No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Scott Smith for Sammy & Family.

Bailey and Charlie lead us out tonight

Bailey and charlie lead us out tonight

Good evening friends.

Say hello to Bailey and his new sister Charlie. They belong to our great friend Linda Richard-LaBrot. Linda was kind enough to chime in on Poppy Rocky Tuesday with all the hope and possibilities that surround us.

We have shared the story of how the Pops and Rocky got off to a very rough start in life, and thanks to Hope and possibilities, miracles took place.

Tonight we share a miracle names Charlie. Charlie is the dog laying on the couch in the back. She started her life out on the streets and now is part of a loving family and home. It reminds us humans that when we rescue an animal, they rescue us. We call that a Win Win. We like those.

So Linda, this one’s for you for making the world a better place, one animal at a time.

No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Amen. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Poppy Rocky Tuesday on August 2nd, 2016

Poppy Rocky Tuesday on August 2nd, 2016

Good morning friends.

Happy Poppy Rocky Tuesday. A day filled with Hope and Possibilities. Remember, if the Pops and Rocky can make it, anyone can.

Its funny how conditioned we can become. Anytime its Tuesday, I can feel the Zeal in the air because of Poppy Rocky Tuesdays.

Day 568 here in Puerto Rico and day and day 258 since we rescued Rocky.

OK, lets kick this day off with two actionable notions.

1. Just because I was like that, does Not mean I have to stay like that. Today is a new day and another chance to be the best version of ourselves.

2. Let’s use the word “We” more and less “Me”.  There is no “I” in Team.

Have a fantabulous Tuesday. Scott Smith for Sammy & Family.

Extremism and Guns in American

Make it Stop

Good evening friends.

This picture is from the front cover of the Boston Globe’s newspaper today.  Its a riveting picture with three words along side of it, “Make it Stop”

My family and I will supply the link towards the end of the post. It covers what we spoke of on Tuesday, June 14th. This will be the last post of the Orlando massacre on this page unless another outbreak occurs. God forbid.

Sammy & Family and the Smith family, between all of our platforms reaches 5 to 8 million people a month.  Why do I say that, to brag ?  Why would I say that ? — Because its a privilege to reach so many people throughout Social Media and we respect that. We have a responsibility to call things out especially when animals and people’s lives are at risk.  Please continue with me here. I want to tell you about a gentleman that I had it out with today.

I don’t normally do social media wars. Rarely I will get into it with somebody and within two or three remarks, give them my email or cell phone so we can discuss things off the platforms. Today somebody had the gumption to text me a picture of his 3 Assault Rifles. Yes, I did call the FBI. I will tell you that shortly.

If I could ask House Speaker Ryan one question it would be this, “Do you support a ban on all assault weapons whether it infringes on people’s 2nd Amendment rights or not ? I keep hearing The House Speaker say its his job to defend the Constitution.

We can extrapolate that if Speaker Ryan could take back the Orlando incident by putting a ban on all assault weapons, he would Not do that. The rights of people supersede the mass shooting. What I am getting at is protecting the Constitution is literally killing people.  The imperfect founding fathers who had slaves, did Not intend for the Amendment to be used as tool to hide behind so people can have access to assault weapons.

Again, we have an extremism problem and a Gun Epidemic in this country. Its not one or the other, they both flow in each other’s lanes. Radial Islamic’s and White American Terrorists are major problems. We know that. Why are we making it so easy for anyone, extremist or not, to get Military style weapons?

Constitutional rights are not an acceptable answer anymore. Nobody should have assault weapons. Ban all Assault weapons. The NRA is an apparatus of death. Its time to shut them down. America’s values are inverted. We need to put Lives before Profits. Not the other way around.

Friends again, we can’t kill our way out of this abroad. War is not the answer. The terrorists, White Ones, and Radical Islamic’s are US Citizens. Banning assault weapons won’t stop all attacks, but It will save many many many lives.

Australia proved 19 years ago that with Gun Control, gun deaths and gun suicides plummet. Take a read after you read our post please.  Australia’s Success with Gun Control

I want to show you another link that brings me to a man named Whitney from New York. I will not mention his last as I did turn him into the FBI today. If I find out all is OK with him, my family and I are considering do a serious piece on him and the picture he texted me of his 3 death toys he likes to brag about.

This is the link for Tomi Lahren, a 22 year old conservative news anchor who ranted against President Obama, which went viral today; Obama Rant.  This was a disgusting rant. It lacked all credibility, it was just a hate speech. Obama pleaded for Gun Control for 7 plus years now. Tomi was sickeningly disrespectful. Having said that, would I like to see her in a bathing suit ? — Affirmative.

Anyhow, then I saw this gun loving Whitney share this young woman’s post on my news feed. Typical stuff, Obama is terrible, its Obama’s fault, nobody is taking my guns, and the good ole, “God, Country and Guns” type of talk. So i decided to mention we need a ban on all assault weapons, which we do. Never mind everyone’s rights, get a handgun, you don’t need machine guns.  So we exchanged words, he called me bald, lol, which I am. So i said, call me, lets take this off of Facebook.

Then Whitney, this sick, gun obsessed coward texted me a picture of his 3 assault rifles in the face of the Orlando Massacre. The same kind of guns that killed 49 people and injured 53 others. Is Whitney one of these White terrorist maniacs ? I have no idea. So I reported him to the FBI. What a disgraceful man bragging about assault rifles on the heels of Orlando, wow.

Here is the link to the Boston Globe article where this picture is from; Make it Stop;

Love you friends. See you in the morning. TGIF coming up. Scott Smith for Sammy & Family.

Pigs Lives Matter

Pigs lives matter

Good evening friends.

Dr. Harp Seal here. We have an important message tonight. While I know this will not influence everyone, I sure hope it influences some.

Please consider giving up Pork. None of our appetites are important enough to inflict such suffering on animals. Please try Soy Dogs. They’re very tasty and more importantly, you will be sparing these beautiful animals from such pain. Pigs are as sweet, intelligent and loyal as dogs. Try to think of it those terms because that’s how it really is.

None of us can change everything, but everyone can change something. Leaving Pigs alone would be a great place to start. Let’s remember, all lives matter.

The Path to a better world flows through the Humane treatment of all animals. Without that, we have nothing.

Sincerely, Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

A Tribute to a heroic dog named Harley

Puppy Mill Survivor Harley, passed on March 20th, 2016

Good evening friends.

Tonight we pay tribute to fallen angel named Harley. He passed away on March 20th, 2016. Folks as you know we have been writing about animals for the past 5 years. This is truly one of the most moving stories I’ve ever heard about.  I am really surprised I never caught wind of this the story until just two days ago. Harley was brought to my attention by our good friend Kathy Watson.

Harley was a puppy mill survivor. His function was to make babies and father them until they were sold and disbursed throughout the country. Harley lived in a cage at the Puppy Mill for 10 years before being tossed in a bucket to be disposed of after the mill had no more use for him. Harley knew of no other life other than living in a wired cage where no love or kindness was ever shown to him.

The wired cage was very hard on his feet too, despite him learning to live with it. That’s part of the reason he waked crookedly. Poor little guy. Luckily for Harley, a kind hearted lady who worked at the Puppy Mill noticed Harley had still been breathing in the bucket with other dead dogs. This decent lady picked him up out of the bucket and brought Harley to a local shelter.

Harley and Mom

Harley and his human mom, Rudy Taylor sharing a moment.

Once he was treated medically and on the mend, Rudy Taylor, Harley’s Human mom noticed a picture of this crooked one eyed little trooper and felt an instant connection.  Rudy knew he was meant to be with her and contacted the rescue organization immediately.  Next thing you know she drove a few states away from Colorado to pick Harley up and give him the best life possible. But make no mistake, Rudy and her husband knew they had a lot of hardships to unravel for Harley.

Harley had a lot of issues Post Puppy Mill: a diseased heart, a mouth filled with rot, a fused spine, a broken tail, gnarled toes, and legs that were deformed. And then there was the missing eye – the result of his cage being power-washed with him in it (an all too common practice in puppy mills). All of these conditions were the result of years of horrendous neglect and abuse.

Just to point out. Puppy mills can have up to 100 to 800 dogs. In order to clean the cages, many a times they power wash them with the dogs still in the cage. This is precisely how Harley lost one of his eyes. That is so barbaric and cruel, i cannot get over it.

I mean think of the road that that Harley endured, and then just tossed in a bucket to die. But Harley kept breathing and kept the faith. And miraculously made it to Colorado with Rudy and Dan Taylor where this little angel got a second chance at life. What a miracle this was and still is despite Harley’s recent passing.  When Rudy and Dan first rescued him, the vets said he had 3 months to live. Well with love, care and tenderness, Harley lived 5 more years and his story struck a chord with the world. Everyone that met Harley loved him.

Harley and Human Dad

Harley and his human Dad, Dan Taylor

Harley was so resilient to make it through ten years at the Puppy mill. When Harley was finally rescued, he was so grateful and forgiving.  That’s what is so amazing, he still manged to be grateful and forgiving.

Harley brought a massive amount of awareness to the dastardly acts of Puppy mills. He personally has participated in freeing more than 500 dogs in Puppy mills across the Midwest. Harley’s campaign “Harley to the Rescue” raised over $500,000 that helped to facilitate many rescue operations that saved many many dogs. The money also helped to educate children and adults about the horrors of Puppy mills.

As I am writing this i am in shock about Harley being thrown in a bucket and then going on to change the world as we know it. Not only by putting the spotlight on the horrors of Puppy Mills, but inspiring people with disabilities and imperfections like we all have, to illustrate that all of our lives are equally important. And that we all should treat other with respect and decency, no matter what shortcoming any of us have. Harley went on to win the “2015 American Hero Dog” which is the highest honor a dog can receive.  If you want to read more about Harley’s award, click link; http://harleypuppymilldog.com/ and scroll to the bottom of the home page.

When I think of puppy mills and the lives they create and sell for profits, I can’t believe this is legal. And how about the ones like Harley, who spend most of their lives in a cage, how can that be legal ?  Well here is how; Puppy Mills still exist because they are legal according to the USDA.  Dogs  are classified as livestock and therefor are allowed to remain living in cages.

As animal loving people just because laws allow this, we know people should NOT engage in this. To the people engaged in this line of work, you might be a law abiding citizen, but make no mistake, your character and moral fiber are deplorable.  Puppy Mills are every bit as evil as human trafficking, legal or not.  Demand for puppy’s does Not justify the continuance of this vicious cycle. Money is important in this life, we all know that. But not this important. Absolutely not. No amount of money is worth the kind of hell puppy mills dogs have to endure.  This is a question of people’s character, not money.

I encourage everyone to watch this 4 minute video about Harley the Emerging Hero DogThis is the kind of message that could really change the way we look at life. It’s truly one of the most inspiring videos I’ve ever seen.

To Rudy and Dan Taylor, thank you for extending your hand to Harley. That gesture allowed Harley to light up the world with love and kindness.

Harley, thank you for making the world a better place.  Rest in peace sweet angel.

No lives will go in Vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Easter Evening and Animal Welfare

Easter evening and Animal Welfare

Good evening friends.

Thank you for stopping by. We hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend. Sammy boy came to say to goodnight.

Sammy hangs his head with humility this evening. He knows that too many animals don’t have a warm and safe place to sleep. Many years ago I told him about the plight of the animals and that it was Not all Rose Gardens for them.

As a result of those conversations we used to have, Sammy is very conscientious and in tuned with Animal Welfare issues.

A lot of life can be just random luck. Take Rocky for example, I decided to take Sammy, Henry and Patrick for a walk, and next think I know this stray dog just decided to walk with us. When we stopped, he stopped, when we walked, he walked.

How many animals get that lucky ? The answer is not enough of them.  Nobody can change everything, but everyone can change something.

In the lyrics of the late great Micheal Jackson in 1988; ♫♫♫ Make that change ♫♫♫

No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Amen. Dr. Harp Seal.

Happy National Dog Day

Nicholas from NYC leads us out for National Dog Day tonight

Good evening friends  We have a very special visitor leading us out tonight for “National Dog Day”  — This is our great friend Nicholas from NYC.  His human dad’s name is Jim, also a great friend to Sammy & Family.

Nicholas is one of the sweetest dogs in all of NY.  He is exceptionally smart and happy. Nicholas has been making people smile from all over the world the last couple of years.  Its no wonder why either, Jim loves his boy more than anything.

Nicholas is also a beacon for animal kindness.  Jim and his boy have been very active participants in animal welfare.  Its an honor to have they leading us out tonight.

We hope that all dogs around the world had a happy National Dog Day today. Lord knows they all deserve it.  Sadly we know its not the case for too many of them.  Lets keep their well being in our thoughts and prayers.

With that friends we are going to call  it a night.  We want to thank Jim and Nicholas for joining a tonight.  Its always nice to be surrounded by animal loving friends.

Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 227, Scott Smith for Sammy & Family.
