Thank you life for letting me live on August 4th, 2015

Poppy the healer 1

Good evening friends.

Tonight I would like to Thank God for letting me participate in life on August 4th, 2015.  I can speak for anyone else but without the man upstairs I was a walking dead man.

OK, so tomorrow morning we have the full feature from The Empire State Building’s Illuminating Light Show of Endangered Species from this past Saturday night. It will be featured on “The Good News Channel” — Folks, wait until you see more of these larger than life images of our beloved animal friends and read the full story on this event.  August 1st, 2015 will go down in history of one of those most historic NYC nights ever.  The history books will speak of this for hundreds of years to come.  OK, but that is tomorrow.

Let’s talk today and tonight. We hope everyone had a fabulous Poppy Tuesday.  I am so in love Poppy its insane. He eats out of my plate, drinks water out of my glass.  Anytime Vanessa says: “Do you realize there are germs in that water from Patrick.?”  I respond with, “Do you realize the chandelier on the ceiling can fall and crack our skulls open at anytime? — Vanessa do you realize we can get hit by a car every time we walk outside?”

I told her, I don’t sweat the small stuff, if Patrick has some germs, and I catch them, I’ll live.  It makes him happy, and that makes me happy.  The rest is in God’s hands.

OK, lets close with two Poppy notions tonight;

1. Everybody has “The Poppy Chance”  — He represents Hope and Possibilities.  And man did I need those two words over the years.

2. I remember when Vanessa and I first got him, it was incredible. And he was so eager to please us so he would not be sent away again.  He didn’t realize if hell freezed over that was Never happening.  But in September of 2013, hell did freeze over and it was almost lights out for me.  The point is not to bore anyone with a story you heard many times, but I knew when i woke up after six days under, it was Patrick’s Heart that was breaking.  I knew Sammy & Henry were going to OK.  They were shaken up yes, but they had been with me a while.  Patrick was with us only 3 weeks before i went down for the count.  When I made it home alive, I never let that little boy out of my sight again. My bond with Patrick is unbreakable and unshakable.  Madly in love with my little boy.

Squirrels need love too

A squirrel named Anna

Good evening friends.

Tonight we have a very special guest leading us out.  This is Anna the Squirrel.  She is a member of our friend Rose Chandler & Family.  Anna was a baby Rose got from The Washington DC area after the state rehabber had to many on her hands. So she called the VDGIF Hotline to see who could help take some in.  Rose named the squirrel Anna in memory of a very closed friend of her’s who recently passed away named Anna Hunt.  Rose describes this woman as sweet and had a heart of gold.

Anna trusts Rose very much, so much so she’ll eat peanuts out of her hands.  And when Anna the squirrel feeds herself, sometimes her hands become shaped like a heart as you can see in this picture.

Rose Chandler is a major friend to animals.  She rescues and takes care of dozens and dozens of animals at a time. Sammy & Family thanks Rose for making the world a better place  many animals at a time.

The Magic of Koala

Koala on Death Row at that time

(From Pinterest page for super urgent animals at risk of being killed).

I first saw Koala pressed into the back of her small cage at a horrible high kill “shelter” in Harlem (NYACC). She had been brought in as a stray and given the temp name “Krystal”  — She was not getting any attention from potential adopters. She was too terrified. And she was just beginning to get kennel cough — Once an animal has this common cold-like sickness, they are put on the “To be destroyed list.”

Koal looking up smiling Noelle

We named her Koala for Koala’s are known to be quite timid.  Each time my mother saw Koala she commented, “She is very special”.  Tragically, a few months after adopting this “designer dog”, my Mom died suddenly. We brought Koala to the funeral, and not only was she a profound comfort to me and my family, but to everyone there who was grieving. Mom was right, she is indeed, an extremely special being.

Koala lying down

And that is the story of Koala, a dog that was to be killed to a dog healing and mending people’s hearts.  Another example of people rescuing pets and pets rescuing us right back.   Susan thank you for sharing this angel with us.  That was quite a journey this little girl has been on.  It makes us all happy to see how happy she is.

Goodnight friends. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Libby will lead us out tonight

Libby will lead us out tonight

Good evening friends.

Tonight we have Libby leading us out.  This is quite a story. Our friend Megan from Texas was nice enough to share it with us. Libby was  part of a litter of puppies who started out in Montgomery County Animal Shelter.  She was the only one, that was not euthanized.  She was adopted by Operation Pets Alive and was recognized by her extreme ball drive to be picked to go to Universal K-9 training in San Antonio for narcotics.

Megan’s fiance Deputy Jesse Bullinger with Montgomery County Constable Pct 4 was helping raise awareness for pet adoption at the shelter when he was approached about Libby. She was then donated by Universal K9’s Training for Narcotics.  From there https://www.facebook.com/Lily.PitBullAmbassador?fref=ts  donated the funds to pay for Deputy Bullinger’s training.

Libby is now a narcotics K-9!  She is just finishing up her training and will be officially working within the next couple of weeks. From what I’ve been told, Libby and Jesse work extremely well together and have been ahead in the class. When I first met her she couldn’t be any sweeter. She really is an inspiration.

Sammy & Family wants to thank Megan, Deputy Jesse Bullinger, the Montgomery County Constable precinct and, the people of  https://www.facebook.com/Lily.PitBullAmbassador?fref=ts  for giving Libby’s life happiness and purpose.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Goodnight from Henry & Family on Sunday, April 26th, 2015

Goodnight from Henry The Soldier of Love
Good evening friends.

We hope everyone had a great weekend. The Solider of Love wanted to come goodnight. He’s such a humble little boy. It’s nice to be here with y’all tonight. Three quotes to push the Sunday night blues away.

1. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened” — Dr. Seuss

2. “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see             the one that has been opened for us”  — Helen Keller —

3. “Today was a gift, if we’re lucky enough to have tomorrow as a gift, does it really matter that its called Monday?”  —             Scott Smith —

Tonight Molly will Lead us Out

Prayers for Molly, get well soon

Good evening friends.

Tonight Molly will lead us out.  She is a member our of friend Bessie Stephens & family.

Molly is a 12 year old rat terrier whom Bessie has had since she was four weeks old.  She has survived heart worm disease.  Now she is very sick.  She is currently at the vets getting some kind of IV drip.  She has Been stumbling and sometimes falling.  The blood work showed some kind of liver count that was ten times higher than what it should be.

As of this morning Molly is still on a saline drip and they want to keep her overnight again.  Let’s keep Molly and Bessie in our prayers.  It’s hard to hear and see of things for any of us.  Bessie keep us posted please.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & family.

Tonight we have Romeo leading us out

Romeo leads us out tonight

Good evening friends.

Tonight we have Romeo leading us out.  He is a rescued Pit Bull and is member of our friends Lynn and her daughter Colby Lee.  He’s such a sweet boy.

Romeo had a pretty bad bought with heart worms past few weeks.  Colby originally took him to her vet and he used an old style treatment shot for heart worms and Romeo ended up very sick and could hardly walk.  Then they took him to Lynn’s vet where he received steroids, antibiotics and pro heart shots. Its a longer treatment but better for dogs then the original treatment.  And what do you know, within 24 hours Romeo was back to his old self .  That was quite a scare Romeo and his family went through.  We are very happy he is on the mend.  Such a sweet guy Romeo is.

Its interesting, we are of heart worm on the less serious side of health threats, but sometimes things happen and it gets off course.  Thank God Romeo is OK.   Lynn and Colby, thank you for keeping us up on this sweet boy.

Friends we hope you all had a nice weekend.  See you first thing in the morning.  Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 78, Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family

Day 73 in Puerto Rico and my boy Jeffrey

Jeffrey boy

Good evening friends.

We hope you all had a nice day.  Day 73 here in Puerto Rico, in Spanish that is setenta y tres dias.  I like to count the days so i don’t forget where I am.  Its nice to be chilling with the angels around me.  We are still working with Jeffrey, he’s doing great. Jeffrey is our 5th dog for all our new friends who might Not know that.  He is such a good boy.  Still scared of his own shadow, but very sweet at heart.

Each night i try to channel energy to him that the worst is behind him.  And whatever happened to him before he got here won’t happen again.  Sammy & Family and Jeffrey are unbreakable and unshakable now.

There are a lot of animals out there still directionless and unsafe.  We pray for them and ask that they find comfort the way Jeffrey did, the way they all deserve.  It’s all so random it seems, it can be very overwhelming when you think about it.  That’s when i default myself to the old expression; “Nobody can change everything, but everyone can change something”  — And I will add to that, “Maybe I can’t change the world, but i can change my world”

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Tonight we say goodbye to an angel named Scruffy

Rest in peace Scruffy Rest in peace Scruffy

Good evening friends.

It brings Sammy & Family great sadness to say goodbye to a fallen angel named Scruffy.  This little trooper belonged to Cindy Detroit.  Cindy is a very good friend of Sammy & Family.  She is a major animal lover and has dedicated many years of her life to animal welfare.  The Picture on the Left is Cindy’s last picture with her beloved Scruffy. The picture on the right is when Scruffy was just a puppy.   Let’s hear from Cindy directly, this is a very powerful and moving story;

Scruffy was Born May, 1999~Went to Rainbow Bridge March 22, 2015 @ 2:41 PM

“For every ending there is a new beginning.”~Unknown

Today was the end of my sweet Scruffy boy’s time on this earth. It means I have a beginning of a life without my little shadow and sweet companion.

My heart is in thousands of pieces. I don’t know how to go on without him. There have been so many hard, sad things and losses he has gotten me through. During my time of chronic illness and pain, he has been my therapy dog and kept me such wonderful company.

If I could have taken away his pain and kept him here forever, I would. I hope and pray that his 16 years with me were happy and loving for him.

There will be an emptiness without him that nothing will fill and hurt that time will not heal. My only comfort in this is knowing he is no longer suffering and in pain.  Because of him (and my other animals), as well as friends, family, and God, I have been able to endure some painful things. My sweet little Scruffy, know that you were loved greatly and will be missed more than anything! Mommy loves you, always and forever!

Here is his story:

One evening, 16 years ago, I was walking through our local mall and was drawn to the pet store (Scamps) there. This cute little fluff ball was in the window. It was incredible how much he looked like my Mushy girl that I had lost in March.  This was now June, 1999. Not intending to bring him home, I admired his cuteness through the glass and went on my way.

The next evening, my 10 year old stepson and I were in the same mall, walking past the same pet store.  I told him that he needed to see this adorable little boy. We asked the girl if we could see him. The next thing I knew, we were in the “get acquainted room” where we played with this little puppy for a few moments. I wanted to bring him home, but just couldn’t decide for sure. When the clerk told us the store was closing and this was the last day the animals would still be in Bend, that in the morning they would be shipped to their Eugene store, about a two hour drive away, I had to decide whether he would become a new addition to our family.  With Caleb’s added desire to bring this puppy home, the decision was made! Scruffy came home with us then and there. I couldn’t find his exact date of birth but it was between the middle and 25th of May, 1999.  His first, 8 week vet check up was July 24, 1999, so I’m guessing his date of birth is the end of May.

This little boy has become my constant companion and shadow, especially since April 2010, when I lost my Border Collie, Leia.  After she died, I invested my attention and energy into Scruffy. I am so glad I did because wherever I was, he wanted to be. He would follow me around the house, whether it was to the bathroom, kitchen, downstairs, or outside, he had to find me and watched over me until I sat back down, then he would lie down close by. If I was out of his sight, he had to find me. He didn’t know any tricks or mind very well, he wasn’t beautiful, but was cute as could be. He tried so hard to be obedient, even though he flunked out of class when he was a puppy. He was loyal and faithful.

When I raised baby chicks, had a bunny, cat or chinchilla, he always wanted to play with them.  His favorite game was stepping on them with his front paw.  Playing in the pasture with the sheep and fallow deer was also something he really enjoyed.  When visitors came to see me, Scruffy placed himself between us as if to say “this is my mom, don’t come any closer.”

About two years ago, I found out he had malignant tumors in his front right leg. The vet suggested putting him down that day. I told him, “NO”, because Scruffy still had so much energy and life. Arthritis in both his back legs became so bad that he was no longer able to walk without showing the pain. Every night as we snuggled on the bed, for prayer time, I would thank the Lord for another day that Scruffy’s precious life blessed mine.

I prayed that he would live a happy, healthy, long life and have minimal pain.  But most of all, I prayed that he had a very happy and great life with me. Until just this past few days, he didn’t show that he was hurting too much, and continued trying to do his normal activities. My little boy was so very brave until the very end, which came this afternoon, at the vet clinic with compassionate people around us. My mom took us to the clinic and was with us for his passing.

I often wonder if dogs have memories.  If they do, I hope Scruffy’s are sweet.

Let Sammy & Family end with this.  Cindy `that was such a moving story on so many levels.  All of us from around the world have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.  Sometimes saying goodbye is the only loving move left to make.  We know Scruffy has been struggling pretty bad the past year as we have written about, Scruffy suffers no longer. Rest in Peace little soldier.  You made the world a better place.  Sammy & Family and friends will never forget you.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Scott and the boys welcome you to the weekend

The boys welcome you to the weekend

Good evening friends.

Its great to be here with everyone tonight.  The weekend showed up right on time as it always does.  Day 62 here in Puerto Rico.  Life was good today on March 13th, 2015.

Vanessa and I hope to see everyone on the timeline in the morning for the big day.  No pressure of course, only if its easy for everyone.  Just a reminder for anyone who might have missed it, Sammy is turning 10 years old tomorrow.

I will have a nice story about him and I in the morning that I’m excited to tell.

Signing off from Puerto Rico.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Love always, Scott Evan Smith
